The FBI Sacramento Field Office informed some Washington, D.C., and Sacramento, Cal., lobbyists that their communications had been intercepted in connection with a corruption investigation that ensnared Dana Williamson, a former top aide to Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Cal.). The FBI notification letters disclosed that the lobbyists weren't "necessarily" targets of the investigation. Williamson was under FBI surveillance whilst she was Newsom’s chief of staff, according to the Sacramento Bee.
