X, successor to Twitter, has been fined $140 million by the European Commission over content violations

The European Commission made a finding that X had committed content and advertising violations of the Digital Services Act. The investigation commenced in 2023, after Elon Musk completed his acquisition of Twitter. Musk's allies within the Trump administration, notably Vice President J.D. Vance (R), have denounced the fine as a move aligned with censorship.
