Leaders of both political parties determine who gets to run for, or keep, public office. It's all about obedience. Amongst Republicans, President Donald J. Trump (R) used the bully pulpit to reportedly pressure U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga. 14) into resigning from office. Amongst Democrats, Mayor-elect Zohran K. Mamdani (DSA-New York City) reportedly pressured the DSA to withhold support from Chi Ossé's primary challenge against Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y. 8).
