A car explosion on Monday near Red Fort, one of Delhi's major tourist attractions, has left India on-edge as officials investigate its cause. Dating to the 17th century, Red Fort was the home of Mughal emperors, and it still holds political importance to India. In accordance with tradition, Indian prime ministers deliver speeches from the ramparts of Red Fort each year to mark Independence Day. In 2000, it was the site of a terrorist attack.
