Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy released early from prison whilst campaign finance conviction appeal is pending

Nicolas Sarkozy was conditionally released from prison on Monday after having served approx. three weeks of a five-year sentence for campaign finance violations. He was convicted in September of having conspired to use money from the late Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi to fund his 2007 election. His appeal trial is scheduled for next year. He remains subject to court supervision and cannot travel outside of France.
